Landfill SimulatorLANDFILL GAS-TO-ENERGYPOWER PLANT SIMULATOR
Simulator Screen for Landfill Gas Flare Station Blowers & Plant Blowers This simulator is a dynamic model of a 52 MW Landfill Gas to Energy power plant. It is based on a real plant in Los Angeles - The Puente Hills Energy Recovery (PERG) Facility in Whittier, California. The landfill is owned and operated by Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. The Puente Hills Landfill has over 42 millions tons of trash in place and is currently receiving refuse at the rate of 72,000 tons per week. Because of the size and the extensive gas collection system in place, approximately 20,000 SCFM of landfill gas is collected and burned to produce an average of 52 MW of electricity. The plant is in operation since 1986. It consists of two steam generators each fring 8,700 SCFM of landfill gas. Each unit produces 200,000 lbs of steam per hour at 1,350 psig and 1000 deg. F. The steam is used to drive the turbine generator. In this Landfill Gas to Energy Plant simulator, user can practice plant startup, shutdown, manipulate load setpoints or activate control systems interactively and review the system behavior on the graphical displays. In addition, user can insert an equipment malfunctions, and evaluate the automatic control system’s responses or execute different operating strategies to mitigate the upset. The simulator is currently used for operator training. The Simulator major models include:
